Motorola MOTOACTV GPS Sports Watch Review

A sports watch that's also an MP3 player? Pretty cool. Motorola is one company who is smart enough to pay attention to what real customers are saying about its products and uses feedback posted on Amazon to improve. After a series of software updates that addressed some concerns that early adapters had, reviewers commented that this unit is "the one to beat". One person commented that it functioned better than Nike's entry-level sports watch with better GPS, better touchscreen and all-around better performance. Some people discovered that this nifty little gadget has Android as an OS, hacked it, and installed Angry Birds on it (!) though most people just liked how it combines a standard sports watch with GPS and a wi-fi hookup, an MP3 player and an FM radio.

Nike+ SportWatch GPS Watch Review

This is Nike's most recent release in the sports watch world and most reviewers commented that, while it might not have all the latest gadgets, it gets the job done. Lack of wi-fi seemed to be the biggest complaint but some did comment that it's just as easy to plug it into the USB port. You download the setup instructions online and can poke around on the controls while it's charging. Don't forget to sign up for your free NikePlus account if you're new to Nike sports bands. The GPS can find a satellite quickly and stay accurate as long as you remember to upload the data between runs and delete anything that shows up as an error. One reviewer estimated that GPS worked well about 87% of the time. Another user did comment that Nike released a series of firmware updates that helped improve GPS accuracy. Pluses included a user-friendly interface, water-resistant design and stylish appearance.Sports Watches with GPS for Runners

Garmin Forerunner 110 GPS-Enabled Sport Watch Review

Pluses of the Garmin 110 include compatibility with a 405 chest strap, a lighter weight and smaller size, enlarged numbers on the display for easier reading, longer battery life than the 405 and simple menu navigation. Some reviewers also liked that it wasn't loaded down with a ton of extra features they probably weren't going to use. That helps to keep the price down and keeps the watch at a reasonable size for a sports watch. There were some gripes about the "current pace" feature not being very accurate, especially if you have to deal with a lot of tree cover which can confuse the GPS link, but one distance runner commented that he only cared about his average pace anyway.Best Sports Watch with GPS for Women

Timex Global Trainer GPS Watch Review

Timex is best at making stylish timepieces but still makes a pretty good sports watch. This one is durable enough to take some punishment and even get muddy if you slip and fall on a slick trail after a rain. It's also waterproof enough to handle being soaked in a bucket of water to get the mud off. Most people used the free version of Timex's progress tracking software. Some did gripe about shelling out bucks for the "premium" version, which is basically what Garmin offers for free. The GPS and ANT+ software improved with a firmware upgrade late last year. It supports footpods and the battery life is good. Some did warn about a learning curve while you get used to using this watch but liked the features and the functionality.

5. Garmin Forerunner 405CX GPS Sport Watch with Heart Rate Monitor (Blue)

Best Rated Sports Watch with GPS

If you are looking for a great GPS sports watch you will love Garmin Forerunner. It records your pace and heart rate then you can wirelessly send the information to your computer and track your results easily. Having a watch with GPS navigation and fitness tracking is great for anyone who is serious about their sport or being fit and in shape.
Garmin Forerunner 405CX GPS Sport Watch with Heart Rate Monitor (Blue)

Garmin Forerunner 405CX GPS Review

Pluses for the Garmin 405CX include a smaller, lighter weight watch than the 305, the wireless ANT technology that automatically uploads data when you get close to a computer with wireless hookup, and the automatic power save mode that helps save the battery when people forget to turn it off. One reviewer did comment that Garmin isn't exactly Apple, so the touchscreen capability may become unresponsive if it gets sweaty, but it only took a second to wipe it off. When the battery died on his Garmin 405CX after about three years, he just went ahead and bought another one because the price had come down with the release of newer models and he thought the 405CX was pretty good. Others liked that it could pack several features into it without looking overly bulky and the GPS was integrated into the unit rather than having to deal with a separate device. Some people did recommend poking around on this watch for a little bit to learn the features and locking the screen once you get the view you want but thought this was a good durable sports watch.

Garmin Forerunner 310XT Waterproof GPS Watch Review

Garmin does its best to pack a lot into this watch and it does make it a bit bulky, but people generally liked the number of features. There were some gripes about lack of a "swim" feature since it is advertised for triathletes but one reviewer did excuse it on the grounds that the feature probably wouldn't have worked well anyway. He didn't think it was Garmin's fault. He commented that GPS technology just wasn't advanced enough to handle underwater connections and a swim feature wouldn't really be useful. People liked the improved ANT+ functionality and online software for tracking their data. The option for "other" sports was a surprise for a triathlete watch and one person liked it for skiing and snowboarding. Somebody did recommend upgrading the software if your watch has software version 2.5 and you're using Internet Explorer after some hassles with IE's security features. Overall, this is an excellent watch considering the technology limitations at the time it was released.

Pyle-Sports PSWGP405BL GPS Watch Review

Serious runners who like to track their data like the functionality and features in this watch. There is a learning curve and you will have to spend a few minutes to get it set up and calibrated. One person commented that, if you can use a PC and follow instructions to get the watch synced up with the heart rate monitor, it shouldn't take too long to get going on this watch. The GPS is accurate, it's waterproof, and it's durable. It is a bit bulky, but considering what's packed into it, most people just decided not to wear it as an everyday watch. The battery will last about eight hours if you have the GPS feature on. With the Amazon discount, you can get it for less than $200, which most reviewers thought was a bargain.

Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Watch Review

You know it's a good watch when it can get a 4.5 out of 5 star rating in more than 2,000 reviews. Pluses included a good GPS hookup that rarely loses a connection while outside, a sharp-looking screen with customizable readouts and the ability to map your route with a Google Earth linkup. At least one person liked that he could toggle between screens to get information like sunset, sunrise, altitude and grade. It can take a minute or two to find a satellite but at least one reviewer commented that it's no big deal if you just put it someplace where you know it can find one and then go find your running shoes. Some did gripe about the current pace readout fluctuating wildly but it does decently at calculating your average pace. It is an older watch, so it probably won't have the latest technology, but it's pretty good.

New Balance N9 GPS Trainer Watch Review

New Balance is best known for its quality sports apparel and shoes but also turns out a pretty good sports watch. There were some comments that the interface looked like something out of the 1990s but they liked the simplicity. Just spend a few minutes poking around with it when you first get it, and unless you're totally hopeless with a computer you should get the hang of it pretty quickly. One reviewer commented that sometimes the heart rate readout gets a bit off, but it's still more accurate than most comparable sports watches. There were some complaints about not being able to upload data to a software program but it works well if you just want to see how you're doing during a workout.

Garmin Forerunner 610 Touchscreen GPS Watch

Garmin Forerunner 610 Touchscreen GPS Watch Review

This is one of Garmin's newer sports watches and most people thought it was a good step up from the 400 series. It compared favorably to Nike's equivalent, the GPS+, and such a hot seller that one person who attended an expo said that the 610s they had on site were gone in minutes. He was able to get one the next month and enjoys using it. It has a good battery life and the touchscreen is very good for a sports watch. It's not quite as sensitive as an iPod's touchscreen, but it'll work even with gloves on and can even get wet without fouling up. If you attach the included USB device to a computer with Internet hookup, the watch will automatically upload data when you get close to it, which most people thought was cool. There were the usual gripes about GPS but maybe there's no GPS-enabled watch that's going to be 100% accurate.

Garmin Forerunner 101 Waterproof Running GPS

Garmin Forerunner 101 Waterproof GPS Watch Review

The Garmin Forerunner 101 is obviously one of Garmin's older sports watches and is pretty good for the technology available at the time. Positives included the clear, easy to read display, ease of use, good GPS receiver and ability to record results right on the watch. A favorite feature was the basic GPS that helped them track their route and find their way back if they got lost. It does take a minute to get a signal, which should give you time to put your shoes on if you put it in a place where it can pick up a satellite. Some people did suggest getting the rechargable 201 if you don't want to mess with replacing AAA batteries but most were okay with it and one person recommended buying a battery charger if you worry about the cost of batteries. It's water-resistant to take a little sweat or a mild rain, though you certainly don't want to get caught in a downpour with this watch on. One person came back for another one although there were newer watches available by the time he lost his, so you know it's a good watch.
